Job description
Kiwengwea Nursery & Primary School is a small independent school in the Northeast of Zanzibar serving children from 2- 12+ in a nurturing and stimulating environment. Our mission: Kiwengwa Nursery & Primary School (KINS) provides an excellent, Internationally competitive education based on American and British curriculum models but most importantly centered on the individual needs of our culturally diverse students. We are seeking someone to take over business operations and help ensure the financial stability and smooth operations of the school for years to come.
The Business Director is to oversee and manage the logistical and financial needs of the school including:
- Fundraising and donation management
- Grant proposals and funding request letters to generate income for the school
- Educational, office, cleaning, and logistical supply purchasing
- School tours for potential families and donors
- Creation of marketing materials
- Management and creation of official school documents including fees & policies, school handbook, teacher contracts, etc.
- Logistical organization of field trips and school events including end of term shows and annual community & fundraising event
- Parent relations as it pertains to fees and payments and any operational school concerns. (Concerns regarding the curriculum or students progress should be directed to the head teacher and classroom teacher respectively).
- Organization of parent meetings
- Run staff meetings in partnership with head teacher
- Post adverts, recruit, and vet teaching candidates, conduct first round interviews
- Track daily expenses of the school via school bank excel spreadsheet, oversee and manage all school spending
- Staff payroll
- Manage and record all incoming payments
- Negotiate payment plans and school fees for incoming and existing families
- Working with the head teacher to ensure that the educational, logistical, and financial sides of the school are in line with one another and the overall mission of the school
Requirements:
- Candidates should have degree in non-profit management, educational administration/leadership, business, or related field.
- Candidates should have 5+ year of experience and a proven track record of fundraising and financial management.
- Candidates should have experience with budgeting, payroll and purchasing.
- Fluency in English – written and spoken is a MUST
- Experience in a school setting is a big plus but not necessary.
- First aid skills.
- Candidates must love children and be excited to interact with them on a daily basis.
- Candidates must be comfortable working in a developing country and understand the lack of conveniences available.

- Modest salary based on experience (Pleas note we do not have the budget of large international schools but our goal is to grow financially to provide more competitive salaries, this will be part of the Business Director's responsibility.)
