Position: Hati Salama (HASA) Research Project Coordinator
Role Summary: You will be expected to manage day-to-day logistics of a cluster-randomized trial to investigate
perceived barriers to e-voucher redemption of bed nets amongst pregnant women and personalized SMS messages around e-voucher redemption. This project will be occurring at various sites across Tanzania, however the Project Coordinator will be based at the Pamoja Tunaweza Health & Research Centre in Moshi, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. You will be expected to manage a team of research assistants, clinical practitioners such as nurses and clinical officers, bed net distributors and retailers and to run a comprehensive training program for all team members. You will be responsible for the organization and oversight of all data collection and entry.
You will report to a Project Manager based at Queen's University, Ontario, Canada and to a Project Manager at the Mennonite Economic Development Association (MEDA), based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Location: Moshi, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
Key Responsibilities:
  • Participation in the hiring, training and management of project staff across Tanzania (research field staff, clinicians, bed net distributors/retailers and other project stakeholders)
  • Work within a team and manage field staff
  • Plan, prepare and coordinate multi-stakeholder project training
  • Liaise with various project sites and ensure project efficacy
  • Management of day-to-day activities (scheduling, budgeting, human resources)
  • Reporting of daily activities to MEDA & Queen's Research Coordination offices
  • Field visits to participating sites (around Tanzania)
  • Financial management & reporting
  • Preparation of monthly project progress reports
Required Qualifications & Experiences:
  • Master's degree in International/Global health research, international development (or related field), Master's of Science degree, or equivalent research/work experience
  • 2 years research program coordination experience or equivalent experience
  • Proficient in research methodology & epidemiology
  • Previous experience with logistical management in low-income & rural settings
  • Experience effectively executing and tracking program budgets
  • The ability to work in cross-cultural situations & the ability to be flexible and adaptable to the situation
  • Ability to solve unexpected problems as they arise
Competencies:
Required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to communicate with project team via email and skype
  • Strong planning and organization skills
  • Experience living and/or working overseas
  • Fluent in English
  • Financial management skills
  • Comfortable traveling around Tanzania
Desirable:
  • Working knowledge of Swahili
  • Familiarity with implementing health research projects
