About the Volunteer Venture
Anza offer a Tanzanian Volunteer Venture to UK and Canadian based university students.The Volunteer Ventures are 2-4 week building projects in rural schools in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania, ru
nning throughout the summer months (June-September). The projects for 2015 will focus on building new toilet blocks and classrooms. We also aim to provide the schools we work in with an income generation project, such as a vegetable garden, chicken coops or a tree nursery.
Role Summary
We are seeking a Volunteer Venture Coordinator to supervise our student groups in the field, and to support the planning of the Volunteer Venture before their arrival. You will be working alongside a building projects manager and local team, and under the supervision of the Student Ambassador Manager. This role is ideally suited to an outgoing candidate seeking experience in volunteer management, with a passion for providing fantastic, immersive experiences for international volunteers.
You will be responsible for:
  • Coordinating with SA Manager to plan programme itineraries
  • Liaising with SA Manager to plan and carry out Volunteer Induction
  • Living and working in Moshi Rural with teams of student volunteers
  • Planning activities to integrate volunteers into life in the community
  • Day to day management of the project site and volunteer house
  • Providing material for the Anza website and social media channels
Selection Criteria
  1. Highly organised, outgoing and resourceful
  2. Strong written and oral communication skills
  3. Strong problem-solving skills
  4. An understanding of Anza's mission and vision
  5. A willingness to get involved in the daily tasks of the building project – painting, digging, cement work etc.
  6. Commitment of 6 months
  1. Positive attitude and work ethic; passionate about engaging youth in development issues.
  2. Prior experience in working in the third sector/with volunteers is desired
  3. First aid knowledge desirable
  4. Knowledge of Swahili desirable
  5. Building experience is not essential
The Appointment
The post is available from April 2015 – October 2015. Groups arrive from June so the first 2 months will be spent on planning and preparing the site.
  • Accommodation is provided for the duration - Staff house in Moshi Town and volunteer house in the field
