Kabanga Nickel Company Limited (KNCL) Environmental Officers Jobs Vacancies in Tanzania

Reporting to the Environmental Lead, the Environmental Officer will be responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring and measurement of environmental programs for Kabanga and contractors. The position requires good relationships with contractors at site to ensure their alignment to responsible
environmental management, and other environmental standards and initiatives, and a close working relationship with co-workers as well, for the proper implementation, monitoring and measurement of programmes.

The position will be on a rotational schedule of six(6) weeks on-site at Kabanga and three (3) weeks off.
The successful candidate will have the following

Key Responsibilities:
• Attend weekly meetings with Kabanga team and Kabanga contractors
• Conduct weekly/monthly inspection of all project areas
• Monitor environmental non-compliance and environmental impacts
• Deliver the training required to support the company’s environmental program
• Routinely work with contractors on environmental issues
• Maintain statistics that monitor and measure environmental performance, and ensure all relevant tests (water, air) are conducted.
• Inspect, maintain, and calibrate all meteorological, water and air testing equipment
• Supervise work teams assigned tasks such as environmental rehabilitation
• Consistently promote a responsible environmental philosophy through a high standard of personal performance and leadership
• Assume the Environmental Lead’s responsibilities in his/her absence

Desired Skills & Experience
Candidate profile:
The desirable candidate must possess the following qualities:
• Recognized designation (degree/diploma/certificate) in an environmental science or related field.
• A minimum of three years of experience in a safety or environment role, preferably including work in remote locations.
• Significant expertise and knowledge in management of environmental and regulatory compliance is a considerable advantage
• Strong organizational, communication/listening and presentation skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
• Strong oral and written communication skills in English; the same in Kiswahili is highly valued
• Exceptional social skills in a cross-cultural context, with good interpersonal relationship management skills.
• Excellent judgment and decision-making skills under pressure.
• Strong ethical values and commitment to maintaining high standards of corporate social responsibility.
• High energy and enthusiasm.
• Able to work long hours and in extreme heat
• Excellent relationship building, negotiation and influence skills.

Company Description
Our client, Kabanga Nickel Company Limited (KNCL), is a Tanzanian-based mining company managing the Kabanga Nickel Project (the Project).
Having completed the exploration phase, and currently in the project approval phase, Kabanga Nickel is urgently looking for two (2) Environmental Officers. The approval phase will consist of the lodgement of the Environmental Impact Statement, the granting of the Environmental Certificate, negotiating a successful Mineral Development Agreement with the Government of Tanzania and being granted a Special Mining Licence.
