Org. Setting and Reporting
United Nations, International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (UN-ICTR), Judicial and Legal Services Division, Language Services Section.

Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Chief of the Language Services Section, and the direct supervision of the Head, Interpretation Unit, the Interpreter/Translator will be responsible for the following duties:
- Service up to seven Court sessions/meetings per week (exceptionally eight), usually of no more than three hours duration, of various ICTR Chambers/United Nations bodies;
- Provide interpretation, into French of speeches or statements given in English;
- Perform as necessary English to French translation as assigned by the Chief of Section or his representative;
- May occasionally be assigned to sensitive meetings;
- May function as team leader of all interpreters assigned to a given meeting;
- May perform other related duties, as required.

Technological Awareness:
Sound computer skills, including proficiency in contemporary word processing software.

Education
University Degree in relevant modern language or law and an Interpretation Degree, Certificate, or Diploma from a recognized Interpretation Training School; must have passed the official ICTR Competitive Examination for English to French Interpreters/Translators.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in an international organization is required.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR). For the post advertised, a perfect command of French and an excellent knowledge of English are required.

Assessment Method
Candidates will be assessed based on a technical test, eligibility criteria and competency based interview.

Extension of the appointment is subject to Extension of the mandate and/or the availability of the funds.
